One look across this diverse population and you’ll instantly sense the city’s strong military presence. Lackland AFB, Randolph AFB, Camp Bullis, Fort Sam Houston, & San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC) all host thousands of personnel within the nation’s armed forces. San Antonio has even been coined Military City USA. San Antonio has the largest concentration of military personnel in the country, only second to Washington DC.
Not only does the city cater to the military, but it is also home to a booming medical industry. The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio serves a 50,000 square mile region of south Texas and educates thousands of students a year at its medical, dental, and nursing schools.
In addition, San Antonio offers many avenues for higher education, with a variety of local universities and colleges, including Trinity University, St. Mary’s University, Our Lady of the Lake University, Texas A&M at San Antonio, and The University of the Incarnate Word, just to name a few. The largest campus in the area however, is The University of Texas at San Antonio, one of the fastest growing universities in the state, which boasts a student population of more than 30,000.
